Blue Afternoon

After the college entrance exam, Qiao Yuewan fell for Zhou Jiu, the new neighbor who had just moved in downstairs.

Qiao Yuewan fell in love at first sight with Zhou Jiu across the street from her family's supermarket.

It was just past noon, and the sunlight was blazing. Thin rays filtered through the leaves and fell across his face.

In that moment, she memorized everything about him.

At the end of summer, Qiao Yuewan confessed to him. "Zhou Jiu, I like you."

The summer night breeze, the noisy cicadas, the young girl's honest feelings laid bare. Yet a long silence settled between them.

What kind of response had she hoped for? Whatever it was, it wasn't his icy words now.

"Qiao Yuewan, don't like me."

During a college break, Qiao Yuewan went home with an upperclassman.

At the station, she ran into Zhou Jiu, whom she hadn't seen in ages.

He leaned against the wall, the glowing cigarette in his hand dropping to the ground.

After watching the upperclassman leave, he gave a scornful laugh. "Didn't you say you liked me, little moon?"

"You changed your mind that fast?"
