Synopsis

Game designer Luo Lin dies from overwork after grinding through 996 workdays, then transmigrates into a fantasy world as the great demon lord of a dungeon.

Once upon a time, this dungeon was famous far and wide. Countless heroes had met their downfall here, and the monsters had made a fortune just by fleecing them.

But in Luo Lin's era... My lord, times have changed!

Sword and sorcery have faded into history, while the Industrial Revolution is just getting started.

Young humans would rather work on factory assembly lines than take up swords and become heroes.

The dungeon stands deserted, the monsters can't fleece any heroes, and they're so poor they can barely afford to eat.

Faced with a crowd of monsters crying, "My lord, we're hungry! Please feed us!" Luo Lin thinks long and hard, then decides to return to his old line of work.

He calls an all-hands meeting and delivers an important speech: "Dear colleagues, our company has hit a growth bottleneck. Our old business model no longer meets market expectations. We must enter the blue ocean of underserved markets, leverage our existing resources to empower and upgrade our products, connect the industry ecosystem, and build a closed business loop..."

The monsters listen in a daze. "My lord, what does that mean?"

The newly appointed demon lord translates: "This dungeon is doomed, so we're going to start making something nobody in this world has ever seen: games! You're all founding members of the company, so it's time to contribute! Millennia-old skeletons, write the scripts. Sirens, make the music. Abyssal succubi, handle publicity. Slimes, all of you go learn 3D modeling! We're going to conquer the world with games!"

Not long afterward, a company called Dungeon Entertainment burst onto the scene with an astonishing new product: Magic Games.

The simple folk of this other world had never encountered schemes like "random gacha draws with a guaranteed rare after ten pulls," "click here to get a Dragon-Slaying Saber for free," or "the base game is free, but the DLC costs a fortune." And so...

"Why haven't I gotten a single SSR in a thousand pulls? I think the drop rates are rigged!"

"Hee hee hee, my daughter looks so cute in that pretty little dress!"

"It was nighttime when I started the game. How is it morning already?"

Luo Lin only meant to help his monsters find new jobs, but before he knew it, he'd founded the world's number-one game company, built a dream theme park famous across the continent, and launched the most popular Magic Games tournament. He even saved the world with games along the way, and was hailed as "the great modern hero"...

Luo Lin: "How did it come to this? I'm just a lousy game designer..."

[Reading Guide]

1. The games in this story include not only gacha mobile games, but also match-three, RPG, simulation, farming, Soulslike, and other genres.

2. Besides games, the protagonist will also work in other entertainment industries, such as publishing, idol management, and theme parks.

3. This is an ensemble story with plenty of focus on the supporting cast.

Theme: If you can draw upon the strength of many, you will be invincible under heaven; if you can draw upon the wisdom of many, even sages need not intimidate you.

Mostly male leads with no romance and BL. I prefer a fairy-tale-like, light-novel style, and Jinjiang won't let me give too many five-star ratings...

Super Good

Excellent writing, plot, pacing, and worldbuilding overall. BG or no-CP. Pretty subjective, and I’m wary of obsessive bottom fans.

Some No-CP Novels

Plane-hopping, business management, anime transmigration, quick transmigration, people mistaking the protagonist for a mastermind, livestreaming, wild imagination, and playing it safe. I'll fill in the rest gradually; saving this list for now.

Western Fantasy Stories

Traditional Western fantasy: magic and swords, light and darkness, heroes and dragons. It’s my favorite genre. Any pairing or orientation.

Favorite Reads, Mostly No Romance, Plus Some Dealbreakers

I like them and enjoy reading them. Most are stories where everyone mistakes the protagonist for a genius, or where the protagonist is doted on by everyone, with no CP. There are also some BL and romance works. This is my personal mixed-bag reading list.

Mostly BL, with a Few No-Romance Stories (Male Protagonist's Perspective)

Updated as I read. Lots of genres, all with decent writing, which is the most important thing: original works, derivative works, crossovers, British and American fandoms, worldbuilding, System stories, shopkeeping, Western fantasy, space, historical Chinese settings, and more

Novels, actors, screenwriters, directors, talent shows, games, copycat writers, original works, fanfiction, BL, romance, no-couple stories... I read across a wide range of genres and time periods, so read with caution.
