I Secure My Throne with a Secret Identity [Western Fantasy]

▼▼▼Synopsis▼▼▼

That day, Sheldon’s peaceful life was disrupted by a system.

[Congratulations! You have drawn a King Experience Card.]

Sheldon: What happened? Who am I? Where am I? What am I supposed to do?

Tossed from the twenty-first century into a sun-worshipping land to become a king. But this king is actually just a mascot, a sacrifice to the gods.

Sheldon: ...System, come out here. Let me draw another card.

He rose from humble beginnings, starting out as the lowest kind of slave. Yet he personally forged a legend that protected his homeland, one that would be passed down through the ages.

With every stroke of his sword, he wiped out the invading enemy forces abroad and utterly destroyed the institution of slavery at home.

His followers thanked the general day and night for leading them to freedom.

When plague struck and people were displaced, suffering through disaster and hardship, the priests in their sun robes pitied the people. With their own blood, they drew the way to a new beginning.

From then on, he was revered as the one closest to the gods, and his story was passed from mouth to mouth.

Disaster descended, and the earth dragon stirred beneath the ground.

People awaited the gods amid the calamity, but none came.

The crowned ruler stood with the people in joy and sorrow, and together they forged a miracle of life.

From a mascot seen as a sacrifice, he became the true king of Fitzpatrick.

Poems recorded his name, and epics immortalized his greatness.

From the first in line to the throne, to a general who had once been a slave, then a priest favored by the sun, and finally a lofty divine being who could turn the clouds and rain with a wave of his hand.

Sheldon: With cards in hand, the world is mine. What? I’m just an ordinary little king.

The general, once a slave, kissed the king’s necklace and declared himself his most loyal servant.

The devout priest listened to the gods’ will and prophesied that he was the true king of the country.

The sun deity bestowed its favored dew upon him, revealing that he was the incarnation of a god.

Sheldon: Thanks for asking. I’m having an identity crisis online, and I’ve gone crazy.

★Please check out my upcoming BL novel★ The Paladin as Prey [Western Fantasy]

After the Church fell, the last paladin still walked the earth.

He wore silver armor and a holy helm, kept to his code, and fought monsters and protected the weak through his actions. He never grieved the Church’s fall or despaired as darkness ruled the land. No one in the mortal realm had ever seen the face beneath his holy helm.

He was truly taciturn and kept to himself. Everyone thought he was as cold as ice and impossible to approach.

Only after this kind paladin took in an orphan and named him his heir, keeping the boy by his side to teach him by word and example, could others catch a glimpse of the tenderness beneath his helm.

The orphan who received the paladin’s care was small, pale, and frail. Whenever others looked his way, he hid behind the paladin, making people sigh that he was unfit for any grand calling and was letting down the paladin’s earnest devotion.

No matter what others said, the paladin believed his heir was innocent and kind, sincere and just, the brightest light of all and the very embodiment of the code.

As time passed, the heir grew taller, eventually towering over the paladin, who could not have been prouder.

But before he could prepare himself, demonic horns grew atop his heir’s head, and a devil’s pointed tail emerged from beneath his clothes. The paladin saw the crimson in his heir’s eyes and was pinned to the grass, left to be used, plunged into the depths of torment and ecstasy.

Only then did the paladin realize: this was no orphan. He was the lord of darkness, the king of devils.

His ambition would never end, and his conquests would never cease.

-

When his former companions broke through the emperor’s defenses and reached the palace where the paladin was imprisoned, hoping to help him escape, they heard the paladin’s cool, spring-clear voice from beneath his black helm and armor.

“I’m not leaving. He is my responsibility.”

Theme: No matter how perilous the predicament, you can still face it head-on
