Story blurb:

A taciturn young girl named Jiang Huaixue moves into Yangchangzi Alley, accompanied by her sallow-faced mother and scrawny younger brother.

Word is, the family has come to the capital to find the girl's birth father.

Unfortunately, after going through all that trouble to find him, they were beaten and thrown out by his servants.

The neighbors all warn them: "Go back to the countryside while you can. This capital isn't a place for poor country folk like you."

But not only does the family stay in the capital, their lives get better and better:

Their food goes from plain buns and flatbread to chicken, duck, fish, and meat.

Their clothes go from rags to fine fabric.

Their mother's health improves, and their younger brother starts attending school.

They even buy a house in the suburbs!

The neighbors eye the head of the family, Jiang Huaixue, with suspicion. Is she involved in some shady business?

Until one day...

The Princess's guards gather outside the Jiang home and refuse to leave.

The chief steward of the Prime Minister's residence ominously drives a knife into the door.

Even the famously aloof and dignified Seventh Prince stands at the entrance, face dark, calling Jiang Huaixue's name one syllable at a time.

The neighbors tremble. "What kind of trouble has she gotten into?"

The door opens a crack. A hand reaches out, holding a scroll, as a voice filled with despair says:

"Take the next volume. If I start another story without having a backlog again, I'm a dog!"

Word has it that Jiang Huaixue became famous for writing storybooks, and even the palace stages plays based on them. Jiang Huaixue's father wishes he could go back in time and slap himself: Why did you divorce your first wife? Why did you refuse to have children? Why did you look down on people? Could it still be possible to make amends now?

Jiang Huaixue's father immediately rushes to her door and clings to it. "Dear daughter, come home with me."

Jiang Huaixue: "Heh..."

Jiang Huaixue's mother and younger brother: "Heh..."

The Seventh Prince: "Hmph!"

Jiang Huaixue turns around. "What does this have to do with you, Your Highness?"

1. A sweet and satisfying story with a devoted couple and a happy ending.

2. The heroine's growth and adventures take center stage. The romance is a smaller part of the story and develops slowly.
