He's So Well-Behaved [Reborn]

A recommendation for my ongoing campus novel in my column, "Desire" (younger seme)

In Shi Ze's eyes, Ye Ce was always fierce and antisocial. Back in high school, Shi Ze never dared even look at him. Then one day, he received news that Ye Ce had died in a car accident. At Ye Ce's funeral, a former classmate hesitantly handed Shi Ze several notebooks. When he got home and opened them, he discovered that they were Ye Ce's diaries.

Only then did Shi Ze learn that the person everyone in high school had called a monster and a lunatic had been carefully, quietly in love with him all along. Every word in those diaries was filled with a love the man had repressed to its utmost and could never confess.

Everyone thought Ye Ce lived recklessly and acted brutally, but they didn't know he had been sent to the disciplinary office countless times because of Shi Ze, that the hideous-looking scars on his arm were because of Shi Ze, and that even the time he broke his shin and ended up in a wheelchair during his senior year was because of Shi Ze.

When Shi Ze opened his eyes again, he was back on the day he started high school. Ye Ce was still looking at him coldly, his tone hostile: "Get lost."

Shi Ze fell silent for a moment, then gently tugged at Ye Ce's hand. "C-could I... not get lost?"

Once, Ye Ce leaned against a desk, watching Shi Ze walk down the hall. He sighed and said to his friend, "I do like him, but he's too well-behaved. I don't dare touch him. I don't want to drag him into the mud with me."

Ye Ce also said, "He's too pure. Wherever he is, he shines. It's like he belongs in the sunlight, where everyone can see him."

Then one night, Ye Ce saw Shi Ze kick a guy flying, pin the unfortunate bastard against the wall, and glare at him viciously. "You think you can harass me? Who the hell gave you the nerve?"

Ye Ce: "..."

The good boy in my eyes seems to have harder fists than I do...

After Ye Ce had "casually" driven off Shi Ze's admirers for the umpteenth time, Shi Ze finally snapped.

Shi Ze cornered Ye Ce at the turn of the stairs. He leaned close to Ye Ce's ear, his breath deliberately brushing the other man's neck. "Don't you dislike me? What does it matter to you if I find someone else?"

But the normally fierce man blushed at the ears. Looking at Shi Ze, he stammered, "Shi Ze, I like you, but you can't... bully me like this..."

A few things to know before reading:

Song Xingze first met Gu Huaizhi in a house as grand as an imperial palace. At the time, he was filthy and disheveled, while Gu Huaizhi stood on the second-floor balcony in a black designer shirt, looking down at him with folded arms. With his eyes lowered, he looked like an arrogant emperor, and even his very bones seemed to radiate a coldness that set him apart from everyone else.

Gu Huaizhi's father led him over and told him to call Gu Huaizhi "Big Brother Huaizhi." After a brief exchange of glances, Song Xingze received a soft laugh and the most cutting words from Gu Huaizhi: "Is he even worthy?"

That was the first time Song Xingze heard Gu Huaizhi's voice. It carried a young man's arrogance and the unrestrained wildness unique to him, leaving an indelible mark on Song Xingze's heart like a hurricane.

From then on, Song Xingze never called him "Big Brother" again, even though they lived under the same roof and Gu Huaizhi was a year older than him.

Everyone thought Song Xingze was just being stubborn, but only he knew why he never said that one word.

Song Xingze felt that everything he gave to Gu Huaizhi was like pouring a bottle of water into a bottomless pit, with no end in sight. But over time, he had grown used to giving without getting anything in return. Then, after he took a blow meant for Gu Huaizhi, he saw through the blood in his eyes a trace of panic in the other's usually cold gaze. Gu Huaizhi thought blood had blurred his vision, so he only said coolly, "Get lost. Stay away from me."

Song Xingze would never stay away from Gu Huaizhi, because he knew that ever since childhood, ever since the first moment he saw Gu Huaizhi, his eyes had always followed him. As he followed him day after day, Song Xingze gradually realized that his feelings for Gu Huaizhi had long since ceased to be ordinary...

1. Younger seme who seems innocent but is actually cunning x uke who's tough-talking but soft-hearted (I've been wanting to write a younger seme~)

2. The seme and uke are not related by blood at all. The seme simply lives in the uke's home.
