Qi An, a university lecturer, happens to read a novel. The protagonist is a hostage prince forced to be sent to an enemy kingdom to make peace. He seems like a weak, pitiful, helpless little flower, but in reality he's a demon who kills without batting an eye. Qi An would describe him as a rabid dog who bites everyone he sees.
The first thing this "rabid dog" does after enduring humiliation and seizing power over the empire is behead everyone in the former royal family. The former crown prince meets an especially gruesome end, his body left in pieces.
The book shakes Qi An's worldview to its core. He doesn't understand it, but holy hell, is he shocked!
When he wakes up, he discovers that he's transmigrated into a book, into the body of a useless crown prince who shares his name. One of his eunuchs kicks the "rabid dog" to the ground, and the next day, the eunuch's corpse is found in a dry well in the palace. Qi An: Great. Looks like I'm going to be torn apart by horses...
To make sure his body will at least remain intact after he dies, Qi An has no choice but to keep hovering around Gu Jin, constantly making his presence known under the pretense of protecting him. But he never expects Gu Jin's gaze to grow stranger and stranger.
The first time, Gu Jin corners him against a wall and sneers, "Qi An, I'm a rabid dog. You're nowhere near good enough to tame me."
The second time, Gu Jin traps Qi An by the table, his eyes full of menace. "Qi An, you'll regret trying to tame me. Be careful, or you'll end up sacrificing yourself and not even leave a scrap of bone behind."
The third time, Gu Jin smiles brightly at Qi An, his face splattered with blood. His former pretense of weakness is gone, and all that's left in his eyes is madness. "Qi An, now that the leash is in your hands, if you dare let go or hand it to someone else, you'd better be ready to end up without a trace of your corpse."
Gu Jin had realized long ago that this person was different, and he was happy to play along, treating him as a diversion in his dull life. He watched him, and as time passed, his gaze could no longer stray from Qi An. Only then did he realize that he'd gotten himself caught up in the game.
He knew that man was the moon in the clouds and snow on the mountain. The slightest touch from him would leave a mark. Gu Jin held himself back, afraid to overstep or even brush against him, but in the end, even he lost control.
While Qi An held the leash, Gu Jin always kept to his place. As long as Qi An wished it, he would sheath his claws and show him his gentlest side. But one day, the leash suddenly snapped. Gu Jin searched the whole world like a madman, but couldn't find a trace of the man. When he finally returned, the leash that had once restrained Gu Jin was now wrapped around Qi An's ankle, turned into a silver chain...
Gu Jin clung to him like a madman, eyes red, and said, "Qi An, don't leave me."
"Please."
