The Watermelon Grown by a Celestial Lord Has Become a Spirit!

Please add my upcoming novel, The Bird Trapped in a Cage, to your collection!

I am a watermelon

A big, round watermelon

Full of juice and incredibly sweet

My owner really loves watermelon

I was grown by my owner

So, to repay him for raising me

I decided to give myself to him

I was trying to decide whether to cut myself into pieces or slice myself in half so my owner could scoop me out with a spoon. I hadn't figured it out yet~

When my owner came back drunk from the Heavenly Palace, he woozily carried me, round and green, to his bed, stuffed me under the covers, and said, swaying and slurring, "I-it's getting cold. The watermelon needs to be warmed up before I eat it..."

Note:

The blurb is told from the watermelon's first-person point of view. (It's really a watermelon, rolling around on the ground and talking to itself~) The story itself is told in third person!

Blurb for The Bird Trapped in a Cage:

The oriole is a bird.

A bird with a particularly beautiful singing voice.

One day, while it is flying through the woods looking for food, it comes across a man lying on the ground, barely alive.

The man is very, very handsome, so the oriole kindly brings him a magical herb to save him.

It never expected to end up getting caught itself.

To repay it for saving his life, the man has a lavish birdcage built for it.

Every day, the man feeds it the finest food and rare delicacies. The tiny bird gets rounder and rounder until it's almost too fat to fly.

But the oriole is not content to be a caged bird. It yearns for the open sky.

It still has to fly!

So, to disgust the man who locked it in the cage and make him let it go, it poops on his face every day.

But instead of being disgusted, the man says its droppings smell delicious!

The oriole thinks this man might have something seriously wrong with him.

At last, one day, a white-robed immortal descends from the sky and frees the oriole from its cage.

The oriole is overjoyed to be taken away by the white-robed immortal, but the man who wanted to repay its kindness and raised it to be plump and healthy goes mad!

The man starts searching frantically for it.

The oriole thought it would finally be free to fly wherever it pleased, but unexpectedly, it has gone from one cage to another.

Theme: Only hard work can bring a bountiful harvest.
