After winning the boys' individual championship, Akira gets a call from a classmate asking him to come to the volleyball match.

The Rakuzan volleyball team had smoothly won their round-of-16 match. The following day was set aside for rest, so everyone went out for dinner that evening. Unfortunately, they all got food poisoning, and the entire team was taken to the hospital by ambulance in the early hours of the morning.

After discussing it with the tournament committee, they were given permission to field players who weren't on the roster, as long as they were students at the school.
