Waiting for the Sunflower to Turn Toward Last Night

On the western slope of a small southern town lies a field of sunflowers that turn the wrong way. Legend says that anyone consumed by an obsession can step into the sea of flowers and return to yesterday.

Seventeen-year-old Shen Sui loses Chen Yan forever after a thunderstorm. She stumbles into the strange sunflower field and gets her wish, returning to the day before the tragedy. But time sets a cruel rule: she cannot change the outcome of his death. Each time she goes back, she gains only one more day by Chen Yan's side.

Dawn brings a reunion with the one she lost; dusk brings their inevitable farewell.

She loops through time again and again, trying with all her might to stop the disaster, then trying to say nothing and simply spend an ordinary summer day with him. Orange hard candy, a streamside current, albums in an old bookshop, the evening breeze across the fields: countless small, tender moments play out over and over in the cycle.

The seasons turn in the world outside, and everyone else steadily moves on. Only Shen Sui bears the memories of thousands upon thousands of meetings and partings alone, trapped in the height of summer at seventeen. The sunflowers stubbornly face last night, just as she refuses to let go of her obsession.

This is a quiet tragedy of time looping, with no miracle to reverse fate. It tells only of the futility of longing, and the long journey toward making peace with regret. Yesterday can be revisited, but never held on to.

Theme: Obsession traps time, but every reunion must end in farewell. Accept what cannot be undone, and learn to let go of the past and move toward tomorrow.
