The Echo of Sin

The municipal public security bureau's review team handles cold cases that have already been closed. Shen Yan is skilled at dissecting people's hearts and catching the lies hidden in their testimony, but tragedies can easily overwhelm her. Her partner, Yan Yu, is an expert in logical trickery, calm and meticulous, and always able to keep Shen Yan from sinking into despair.

One seemingly ironclad murder case after another conceals a carefully woven trap: a stopped clock tower used to falsify the time of death, a symmetrical hospital ward made to look like a locked room, and a killer who alters memories and switches identities, fooling everyone with layers of false solutions.

Beyond their investigations lies the warmth of everyday life. Scallion pancakes at a street corner in the morning, coffee and milk tea during late-night overtime, steaming wontons at a late-night food stall: the two women move back and forth between case files and daily life. Each hides her own vulnerabilities and worries, and both carry the ties of family. Through countless nights spent poring over files, a restrained, long-burning mutual attraction takes root.

The truth lies deep in the echoes. Behind every cold case are twisted obsessions, buried grievances, and the struggle between the light and darkness of human nature. The sweetness is in the little acts of care they share day after day; the weight lies in crimes sealed away for years. They peel back the lies woven by time and reopen the truth behind wrongful verdicts, making crimes long forgotten hear the echoes.

Theme: Cold cases will always echo in the end, and good and evil in human nature will find their answers. Hold on to your true self in the darkness, and save one another in the warmth of everyday life.
