The Best Writer

Shi Lan opened a guesthouse by the sea, but business was poor. A friend remembered how Shi Lan had once received a high score on a high school essay and been praised in front of the whole class, and suggested she write something to promote her guesthouse.

After thinking it over, Shi Lan registered for a Jinjiang account. Whenever she had time, she wrote something and posted it. She wasn't under contract, and the numbers were dismal, so she treated it as a hobby. But somehow, one day, her readership suddenly grew. It turned out a recommendation post about her story had gone viral on a video app. Delighted, she kept updating.

Many people asked whether the story had a happy ending or a tragic one.

Shi Lan thought tragic endings were the most unforgettable.

The story became a hit, but the ending was tragic. Unable to move on, many readers left comments asking for a satisfying extra chapter. She slyly left them the address of her guesthouse:

[Come visit when you have time. There's wine and stories, and I'll always be waiting for you here.]

It worked wonderfully. Quite a few readers came, drawn by her story. They shared her interests and talked about everything under the sun, bringing in plenty of business and keeping the owner smiling all day.

One day, as she was counting money at the front desk, one of the main characters from her story suddenly appeared in front of her, suitcase in hand.

Shi Lan's eyes widened.

It's over. My ex has come looking for me.
