Qiu Li and Liu Zhen broke up.
Liu Zhen was ten years older than Qiu Li, exceptionally gentle and considerate, and exceptionally pure-hearted and kind. She was a little conservative and easily embarrassed, often blushing scarlet whenever Qiu Li teased her. She was wonderful and adorable, but sometimes a little boring, too.
The novelty had worn off, and Qiu Li was tired of her, so she ended things. She would soon forget Liu Zhen, who was just one unremarkable ex among many.
But Qiu Li never imagined that one day she would be in a car accident, and the person who took her to the hospital would be Liu Zhen.
When she opened her eyes and saw Liu Zhen wiping her face with a towel, looking at her with concern, tears immediately streamed down her cheeks. "Mom..."
Qiu Li had lost her memory and mistaken the ex she had dumped for her mother. She begged her mom to stay, crying, throwing a tantrum, and threatening to harm herself, until Liu Zhen had no choice but to look after her for the time being.
Qiu Li was overjoyed. She brought her mother, who had traveled from out of town, back to her own home, a place she had never brought Liu Zhen before.
It turned out Qiu Li was an orphan. She had grown up in an orphanage, stumbling through life on her own and struggling to survive. Liu Zhen felt for her and took care of her with all her heart, tending to her every need.
How gentle a mother could be: she was there to open Qiu Li's bedroom door the moment a nightmare woke her, to offer advice when work went badly, and to wipe away her sweat after she finished assembling new furniture, asking, "Are you tired?"
How gentle and patient a mother could be. She never lost her temper or scolded Qiu Li. Just standing there with a smile was enough to make Qiu Li feel safe.
But every dream must come to an end. Qiu Li regained her memories, and Liu Zhen felt she had done her part. Qiu Li didn't love her, and she had no reason to stay, so she turned and left.
But Qiu Li no longer knew how to live without her. She ran after Liu Zhen and held her tightly. "Please don't go..."
Liu Zhen said, "You're just projecting your feelings for your mother onto me."
Qiu Li didn't care. She wrapped her arms firmly around Liu Zhen's waist and kissed her as if she couldn't live without her. "I love you... Mom, I love you..."
