Jian Su came to Yuncheng from a small town after passing the entrance exams.
An orphan, she was raised by relatives in her village. Living under their roof, she had endured every kind of hardship and learned that going to university was her only way out.
She knew that only by attaching herself to someone like Bai Shuang, a young lady from a wealthy family, could she make her own life a little easier.
Bai Shuang came from a privileged family, but both her parents died young. Before her mother passed away, she entrusted Bai Shuang to a trusted friend, who looked after her until she graduated from university. Bai Shuang called this woman Auntie.
The woman was mature and beautiful, cool and refined in manner, yet gentle with others. Whenever Jian Su accompanied Bai Shuang to her home and came face to face with her, she felt ill at ease. The woman seemed so shrewd that she could see at a glance that Jian Su had an ulterior motive.
Unexpectedly, one night Jian Su came down with a high fever and mistook her for Bai Shuang. She hugged her tightly and confessed that she really liked her, then fell asleep in her arms without letting go.
Wen Qingwu did not blame her.
Later, Jian Su got her wish and began dating Bai Shuang. They spent even more time together, and Jian Su started calling Wen Qingwu Auntie, too.
Whenever she and Bai Shuang argued or had a falling-out, Jian Su would go to Wen Qingwu for comfort, burying herself in the woman's arms. "Auntie, I'm so upset..."
Later, Bai Shuang cheated on her, but Jian Su did not ask to break up.
When Wen Qingwu asked why, Jian Su said through tear-reddened eyes:
"I'm afraid that if we break up, I'll never get to see you again, Auntie."
"Actually, I wasn't drunk the day I confessed."
"I grew up without a mother. You were the first person who made me feel what it was like to have a home, Auntie."
"As long as I can stay by your side, I'll put up with anything Bai Shuang does to me."
