"Anything goes, anything can be shipped"
At twenty-eight, Wen Er gave in to her parents’ marriage pressure and married a man who was facing the same pressure.
After the wedding, they treated each other with polite respect and kept out of each other’s business. Even when their parents pressured them to have a baby, they could snap back, “My husband can’t do it, so we can’t have kids.”
Maybe he heard her say that. One night, Wen Er was startled to realize someone was beside her. Her supposedly “incapable” husband, his face blank, slid a hand inside her clothes. His body was frighteningly hot.
There seemed to be something off about her husband.
He never used to cook. They always ordered takeout. Now he even put on an apron and went into the kitchen of his own accord. She just couldn’t figure out why everything he made had such a strange, indescribable taste.
And then there was their sex life. He was withdrawn and seemed to have a psychological disorder, so he had no interest in sex. That was exactly why Wen Er had chosen him as her husband. Yet lately, night after night, he climbed into her bed, hoping they could, in his words, “mate and reproduce.”
Yes, that was the strangest part. Wen Er didn’t think normal people called sex “reproduction”…
Huo Junsi was certainly not human. At least, that was no longer what he was now.
He had found the body called “Huo Junsi” in the mountains. By consuming Huo Junsi’s memories, he learned that he had a human partner.
The monster felt it was responsible for caring for the person whose body it had taken. It returned to the nest it shared with its partner, only to find a chaotic mess and a frail human partner.
How pitiful.
The monster cleaned the nest and began nursing its human partner back to health. Its fungal threads were highly nutritious, so it often cut off a small piece and mixed it into the food.
To be honest, though, it had its own selfish reasons for doing so. For its partner to welcome the breeding season properly, she needed a healthy, strong body.
At last, her complexion improved day by day under its care.
The breeding season had arrived, too.
The furtive monster reached out an eager “hand” toward its partner.
The good news was that his wife didn’t mind being touched by him. Unfortunately, she always fell asleep before two hours had passed.
Among his kind, a single breeding session had to last at least six hours. So, to make up for the remaining time, he could only let his fungal threads do the deep cultivation.
He sighed. “The human way of reproducing is such a hassle.”
The bad news: his wife seemed to have discovered what he was.
She took the spores they had raised together.
