Reborn as a Dragon-Proud Protagonist, He Insists on Clinging to Me

[A short-to-medium-length melodramatic story, with a split-personality, darkening top and a laid-back, snarky bottom]

Xide transmigrated into a classic hero's journey novel and knew his script by heart: train diligently to become a great mage, then serve as protagonist Cyril's stepping stone and die in the Divine Tomb during the final battle.

Xide: Isn't that easy? I'll just slack off, skip the trials, avoid learning magic, and try to die before the protagonist is even born.

Instead, he went fishing at sea and was rescued by a kind alchemist. His life script was torn up on the spot. He had to deal with the Church, was driven apart from his lover by his own mentor, and was forced onto the path of revenge. After finally getting rid of his lunatic mentor, Xide tried to resurrect his beloved, only to be dragged by fate into the protagonist's party, where he joined them in the Divine Tomb to destroy the Demon God who was about to revive.

Xide, with the world's malice smeared all over him: Fine, I'll follow the original plot.

But who said the protagonist of a straightforward heroic fantasy could have a split personality? The story clearly said he was a god descended from heaven and an angel reincarnated, so how did he turn into the next Demon God?

Cyril held the resurrected Xide tight:

"It was always me. Why did you keep looking for someone else?"

Xide completely broke down: Who could have guessed that his mentor, his lover, and the protagonist were all the same person?
