Nian Nian and the Cat of the New Year

#Herbalist Girl Finds a Stranded Prince #The Calico Cat Objects to This Marriage

The worst deal Chu Niangu made in her life was taking ten taels of silver to put up an out-of-towner for half a month.

During those two weeks, he:

Nearly burned down her kitchen.

Mistook Angelica dahurica for a radish, dug it up, and stewed it in soup.

Got a fever and rambled all night, calling out "Teacher."

Tried to pet the calico cat and got scratched.

After she kicked him out, he:

Buried a silver ingot beneath her fence.

Came to her rescue when tea merchants cornered her, and came up with a name for her tea on the spot.

Followed her when someone dragged her off to help deliver a baby, standing outside the main room with a cleaver strapped to his side the entire time without saying a word.

Later, when the courtyard burned down, he chased after her and found her in a cave. She turned around and stabbed him.

Later, he built her an identical courtyard in Jiangling.

He still did the cooking, and it was still awful.

Huahua perched on the stove to supervise. Every time he burned a panful, she let out a meow.

Chu Niangu thought the only time she had ever misjudged someone was when she assumed she could settle things with him after just half a month.
