Three Thousand Kilometers South

The cool-on-the-outside, warm-on-the-inside, rugged chef as the pursuer vs. the clear-headed, growing elite as the pursued

When Shen Chuxun, an advertising planner knocked flat by the news that he had been laid off, met Pei Yufeng, a chef who had just lost both his job and his relationship, the two unlucky men whose lives had played a cruel joke on them made the most impulsive decision imaginable within an hour: buy a clunker and head south.

Their ride was a van that could fall apart at any moment. Their starting funds were pitifully low, the old vehicle wheezed along the national highway, and their belongings rattled around in the back.

And so began a road trip with no plan, only escape. They shared a bowl of instant noodles at a rest stop, squeezed into cheap inns, huddled together for warmth on stormy nights when the van broke down, haggled over a few dollars in unfamiliar towns, and weathered the wind and rain with strangers in abandoned old houses.

To make ends meet, the theoretical-minded Shen Chuxun and the hands-on Pei Yufeng set up a "mobile restaurant." They went from flustered fumbling to finding their rhythm. They got lost, their van broke down, and they used their own hands to restore old things in a woodworking shop deep in the mountains, earning a modest but honest income along the way.

Heading south, they went from being utterly lost at first to depending on each other. The unspoken concern, the company in the dead of night, and their tightly clasped hands all became the firmest anchors on their bumpy journey.

When the sea breeze from the south finally brushed their faces, Shen Chuxun suddenly understood: over those three thousand kilometers, they had left their past behind, but had made each other their only way home.

This is a story about escape, growth, and falling in love. There are no dramatic twists, only the gentlest strength quietly growing amid the calm of everyday life.
