The Dragon-Locking Corpse Bearer

In 1934, in the Republic of China, young Lin Jiu of Heming Town in Jiangnan takes on a deadly job carrying a “woman in red” to save his consumptive sister, Xiao Man. Thus begins his life as a corpse bearer. The corpse turns out to be Shen Hongyi, who was falsely accused and drowned in a well a century ago. Guiding Lin Jiu with her ghostly shadow, she helps him uncover the massacre plot known as “Nine Corpses Welcome the Guests.” Nine members of a merchants' guild were silenced after discovering the Yinshan Sect's corpse-raising arts. Their bodies became “keys,” which the sect plans to use to open the “Gate of Yin and Yang” and unleash an unspeakable terror. Armed with the incomplete Secrets of Corpse Bearing, Lin Jiu allies with Chen Mo, an undercover agent on the Folk Customs Council, and Luo the Lame, a black-market dealer. Together they gather the nine corpses, including Shen Hongyi and Butcher Li, and take on both the Yinshan Sect and a traitor within the council. Half human and half evil spirit, Lin Jiu ultimately carries the nine corpses into the Dragon-Locking Well, using himself as bait to seal away the terror. He fulfills his duty to “bear the living” through “corpse bearing,” leaving behind the legend of “Lord Jiu Locks the Dragon.”
