New Life in a Year of Famine

Lin Wei, a modern woman, transmigrates by accident and wakes up as a village girl with the same name, in the famine-stricken thirteenth year of the Qianyuan era. The original owner's family has nothing, and the surrounding area is littered with starving corpses. Clutching the half-jar of muddy water and a few hard bran cakes she has, she begins fighting to survive.

Fortunately, her neighbor Granny Zhang looks after her. Lin Wei uses her modern knowledge to establish herself: she teaches everyone to identify nontoxic wild greens, uses a lighter to start fires with ease, and draws on her geographical knowledge to help the village find water. Faced with bullies, rumors, and refugees, she either outsmarts them or quietly resolves the trouble, and even takes the lead in reclaiming wasteland for crops.

From scrambling for every bite of food to leading the villagers as they endure the hardest days with their well water and crops, Lin Wei not only helps herself and Granny Zhang move into an adobe house, but also becomes the respected "Lin Girl" of the village. When green shoots appear in the fields, she, who once had to start from nothing, has put down roots in this famine-stricken year and found a home and the confidence to keep living.
