Feng Shui Master Liao Bing

Liao Bing was from Sanliao Village in Xingguo County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi. A descendant of Liao Jinjing, founding ancestor of the Liao clan in Sanliao and inheritor of Yang Jiupin’s geomantic arts, he grew up immersed in his family’s rich feng shui tradition. He often followed his elders into the mountains to study the terrain and observe the water. Even as a child, he encountered the compass and fragments of The Green Satchel Classic, developing an instinctive affinity for feng shui.

As a teenager, Liao Bing formally began his training under his elder, Liao Wenshan. He started with the basics of identifying dragon veins and locating auspicious sites, then went on to study the art of regulating qi in depth. He was exceptionally gifted and quickly memorized the compass’s twenty-four directions. His master, Liao Wenshan, often praised him as a “prodigy of the Liao clan.” He also studied medicine and martial arts, skills that would prove useful in his later travels through the martial world.

At fifteen, Liao Bing accompanied his master to choose a homestead for villagers in a neighboring village. Lacking experience, he misjudged the direction of the baleful qi, and after the homeowner moved in, the household fell into turmoil. The villagers questioned him, and some even said he was “famous without merit.” With his master’s guidance, he later found a remedy: placing a Stone Sentinel and rerouting the water. The crisis was resolved. After this incident, he vowed to practice geomancy with care and never betray the trust placed in him, and his reverence for feng shui only grew stronger.
