Feng Shui Master Jiang Dahong

Introduction to Jiang Dahong, Feng Shui Master

In the final years of the Ming and the early years of the Qing, war raged across the land. Jiang Pingjie, a young man from Songjiang whose courtesy name was Dahong, witnessed the Japanese pirates massacre a city and the Qing armies march south. With his family destroyed and his loved ones dead, he unexpectedly inherited half of a bronze compass left by his grandfather. This “Secret Key to Xuan Kong,” engraved with a star chart, held the key to the Feng Shui legend he was destined to live.

He had once been a Ming loyalist. He offered the Tang prince a “Water Dragon Formation” to repel the enemy, but after impeaching the treacherous powerbroker Zheng Zhilong, he was hunted and forced to flee under the guise of a Feng Shui master. In the martial world, he settled an old feud with the Sanliao school by using the Xuan Kong art of “Three Cycles and Nine Periods” to break their “Dragon-Locking Formation.” At court, he broke into the Astronomical Observatory and denounced the Imperial Astronomical Bureau for altering the classics. Using his compass, he predicted “fire in the south,” and the prophecy came true. Among the people, he set up a “Heavenly Cycle Water Formation” to save them from a plague and was hailed as “Immortal Jiang.” But after his eldest daughter died tragically, he swore to “use his art to protect life.”

In his later years, he lived in seclusion in Shaoxing, where he wrote The Five Songs of the Heavenly Cycle and founded the Xuan Kong school. But the Sanliao school framed him for “disrupting the secrets of Heaven.” Before his death, he entrusted half the compass to his disciple and told him, “Join it with the other half at Ruoye Creek.” Buried there was his grandfather’s nautical chart, along with the ultimate secret of China’s dragon veins.

Three hundred years later, his fifteenth-generation descendant, Jiang Anxiang, joined the compass halves in New York. The star chart blazed to life: “Xuan Kong restored to its place, peace under Heaven.” Meanwhile, by Ruoye Creek, a child in a Daoist robe came running, clutching half a bronze compass...

He was the “Immortal Who Rescues the Poor” of the Feng Shui world, a “Wen Tianxiang” in the resistance against the Qing, and a “guardian of the tomb” protecting Chinese civilization. Jiang Dahong’s life was both the grand epic of Feng Shui at its height and a story of blood, fire, and faith in a turbulent age.
