The Void Whisperer of Icathia

At the edge of the world of Icathia stands the weather-beaten outpost known as the Rock. It is the final boundary between civilization and the unknown Void. Kaden Voidwhisperer is one of its guards. After an unexpected surge of energy, his senses are permanently warped. He becomes a Voidwhisperer, someone who can “hear” the malicious, maddening whispers of chaos from the Void Realm. These whispers are not mere noise. Hidden among them are astonishing fragments of information about the laws of physics in the real world, energy nodes, and even the mental weaknesses of living beings. When a Void Rift quietly widens near the outpost and a true Void threat, one that twists the very shape of matter, descends, Kaden becomes the only one able to predict its attack patterns. His warnings save the lives of his comrades time and again, yet every time he listens, every time he pieces together broken premonitions into useful intelligence, it is like a chisel striking at the pillar of his sanity. Hallucinations, paranoia, and uncontrollable fear follow him like shadows. His comrades rely on his “gift” and see him as a beacon in the dark, yet no one knows he is sliding deeper and deeper into madness. In the final battle, which will decide the fate of the outpost and the world beyond, Kaden is forced to push his listening to the limit and embrace the whispers of the Void completely. At the cost of his own existence, he reveals the invaders’ ultimate, seemingly indefensible weakness. He succeeds. The Void threat disintegrates in a blaze of light, and peace returns to the frontier. But Kaden Voidwhisperer is gone, utterly scattered amid the echoes of the Void. The outpost raises a monument to commemorate the silent hero.
