Ashes and a Cold Song: The Frozen Heart

In the bitterly cold Freljord, among the Hearthfolk tribe, shaman Viktor Ashseer possesses the mysterious gift of reading patterns in ash. When the embers of the campfire repeatedly reveal terrifying visions of an "Icebound Heart" and "Devouring Flame," Viktor sees signs that the Frost Watchers are about to awaken and bring an exterminating blizzard. But the tribe's female chieftain, Brunhilde, an old warrior who believes only in battle axes and glory, dismisses his warning as the babbling of a coward.

Burdened by the weight of the prophecy and the future of his people, Viktor has no choice but to cross barriers of snowstorms and old enmity to seek an alliance with the rival Avarosan tribe. He is met by the blade and deep-seated hostility of Sigrid, the Avarosan matriarch. Just as all hope of an alliance is on the verge of crumbling, the Frost Watchers' vanguard suddenly arrives. Sigrid's beloved daughter is turned to ice in an instant by the terrifying blizzard, and this cold death shatters the frozen barrier of generations-old blood feud.

Two forces, the Hearthfolk's forge-fire and the Avarosan wisdom of frost, struggle to unite in their desperation. As the Frost Watchers' terrifying blizzard sweeps in and the ancient fortress teeters on the brink of collapse, Viktor makes his final choice: he leaps into the great sacred bonfire, offering himself as fuel. The shaman's flesh and will are transfigured in the flames. Ash is no longer a vessel for prophecy; it becomes a roaring firestorm that surges against the ice and devours the threat of annihilation.
