A Body at the Docks, Clutching a Marriage Contract from Ten Years Ago

Against the backdrop of a southern port’s rise and fall, this is the story of tough-as-nails entrepreneur Deng Zhongqiang and avenger Zhou Wenhong, who go from bitter rivals to standing side by side.

When Deng Zhongqiang takes over a port on the verge of ruin, Zhou Wenhong is hired to audit its books. She arrives carrying an old grudge: her family had been pushed aside by the Dengs. But as she investigates, she discovers that the truth behind the past conceals an even deeper conspiracy. From suspicious details surrounding a warehouse fire to the Murong family’s commercial assault, from the Ouyang family’s old accounts to the Yan siblings’ vicious schemes, the two gradually uncover the tangled grudges spanning two generations through one clash and act of redemption after another.

The port’s steel framework bears witness to their transformation. Beneath Deng Zhongqiang’s hard exterior lies his concern for the workers and his steadfast devotion to justice. Zhou Wenhong’s blade of vengeance, when faced with the truth, becomes a tenderness that protects. As plans for a smart port take shape and the older generation’s regrets are put to rest, the red silk wound around an iron anchor not only anchors the port’s rebirth, but also binds two souls together across the distance between them.

There is the lively warmth of a braised-food stall, the unspoken understanding of a sign-language corner, and a group of ordinary people who, through courage and reconciliation, find their answer in the sound of the waves: “When the sails come home, the heart finds peace.”
