A Rowdy Family at the Village Head in the 1940s

In the turbulent 1940s, the fate of an ordinary rural family’s more than ten children twists and turns. Some die in the womb, some are miscarried, and some newborns die young. In the end, only six children survive, struggling to grow up amid the tides of the era. Within the family, schemes and rivalries never cease. In the fight over inheritance and resources, relatives turn against one another. Neighbors are also embroiled in endless disputes, with irrigation water and property lines enough to spark a brawl.

The heroine, Lu Na, is clever and resilient. Together with the honest and simple Wang Lei, she strives to protect their family and village amid deep-rooted family conflicts and sweeping changes. They must contend with the constraints of feudal thinking while embracing the impact of new ideas, and lead the villagers forward through changes such as land reform and the establishment of cooperatives. Love, family bonds, and the good and evil in human nature collide and intertwine in this turbulent era, unfolding one heart-wrenching yet hopeful story after another.
