"A Sweet Marriage in the Sixties: The Cold-Faced Director’s Many Layers of Tricks"

In the late 1960s, factory beauty Wang Luoke is betrayed by her fiancé. Pressured by her parents to marry, she rushes into a marriage with Yan Lin, a workshop director at a fertilizer plant known as the “Cold-Faced Yama.” She thinks it will be a marriage of convenience, but this toughest technical expert in the whole factory is as ruthless as a block of steel in public, yet secretly fixes the sewing machine she broke, hides money in her ration-book to buy her a red hair ribbon, and even writes their marriage application more neatly than an engineering blueprint!

When his haughty ex-girlfriend suddenly shows up at the technical department, she mistakenly thinks Wang Luoke is an unmarried younger sister waiting to be wed and eagerly offers to play matchmaker. At the factory’s thousand-person morning meeting, Yan Lin grabs Wang Luoke’s hand, slams it on the table, and declares, “Everyone in the factory, listen up! This is my lawfully wedded wife!” He shocks the whole factory, then stuffs all his ration coupons, fabric coupons, and pay slips into her embroidered handkerchief. Even the coal ash in the boiler room seems to carry a tender warmth.

From “treating each other with icy courtesy” to “loving each other with fiery passion,” he studies every one of her likes with the same focus he brings to repairing boilers, while her careful bookkeeping warms his heart of steel. The squeak of the sewing machine holds the warmth of him getting up in the middle of the night to warm her feet. Amid the rumble of the workshop machinery echoes the tenderness of every stitch she sews to mend his work clothes. In an era when ration coupons rule, they brew a love sweeter than honey amid workshop steam and the bustle of daily life, with a sincerity richer than fertilizer!
