Chinese Gods: An Epic History of Deities from Ancient Times to the Celestial Court

An epic history of the gods, spanning from the ancient chaos to the founding of the Celestial Court. Across twelve volumes and eighty-five chapters, it weaves together the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, Nüwa mending the sky, Da Yu taming the floods, the Investiture of the Gods, and the first opening of the underworld, all the way to the Jade Emperor taking his throne and the Great Sage receiving his title. These gods can be afraid and uncertain; they make rules and mess things up, just like us, struggling bit by bit to carve out something "different" from the chaos. Mythology never died. It simply changed its form and carried on telling human stories.
