Landmark Festival: List of Gods

Thousands of years after the Tang Dynasty enshrined gods, the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties changed to the Qing Dynasty. Changes such as the fusion of Manchu and Han, the rise of water transport, the spread of Western religion to the east, and frequent plagues occurred one after another. The old priesthood was difficult to adapt to the needs of the times. The order of the three realms was broken. Folk "obscene sacrifices" were rampant, and evil spirits took advantage of the gap. The Jade Emperor issued an edict to activate the "one hundred years of divine selection" mechanism, and ordered Wang Changyue, the master of the Quanzhen Longmen Sect in the Qing Dynasty, to inherit Sima Chengzhen's divine whip and divine selection book, and based on the principle of "strict discipline and meritorious service to all people", he would check the merits of landmarks in the north and south. He reconciled the religious disputes between Manchu and Han, and included candidates such as Jin Fu, a giant in water transport, Shi Shoutang, a famous anti-epidemic doctor, and Yue Zhongqi, a famous general in the integration of Manchu and Han. He also added special clergy positions such as water transport, salt industry, and coordination of Western religions, and incorporated folk orthodox beliefs into the "official sacrifice". During this period, the White Lotus Sect colluded with the old god conservatives to tamper with the book of divine selection and obstruct the canonization of gods. Wang Changyue used the ancient method of selecting immortals from San Mao Zhenjun and the divine power of landmarks in various places to break the situation. Finally, the Luotian Jiao was set up in Mount Tai, the ten new gods returned to their thrones, and Guan Yu's divinity was upgraded to the almighty god worshiped by both Manchu and Han people. This search for gods continues the lineage of Taoist inheritance, resolves the barriers between Chinese and Western beliefs, and Manchu and Chinese cultures, realizes the vision of "symbiosis of heaven and earth", and completes the thousand-year closed loop of the double list of gods from the "New God List" in the Tang Dynasty to the "Lin God List" in the Qing Dynasty.
