A Doctor Can't Heal Himself

"If medicine can't let us grow old together, then let death keep us together forever."

Content warning: I'm so sorry if this resembles anyone else's characters. I'll get on my knees and apologize. I really just wrote this on a whim, so please treat it as a bit of fun. If you don't like it, run!

Zou Yexin and Gao Xinnan were prodigies at medical school. After graduating, they became the hospital's brightest doctors: one was the "miracle hands" of neurosurgery, the other the "beacon of hope" in oncology. In public, they were colleagues with perfect chemistry. In private, they were deeply in love.

But fate played the cruelest joke on them: Zou Yexin was diagnosed with glioblastoma, and she happened to be an expert in the field. She knew better than anyone that she had less than a year to live.

Gao Xinnan frantically searched for a cure, but even as the finest surgeon, she couldn't cut out the cancer cells ravaging her lover's brain. In the end, Zou Yexin died in agony. Ten months later, Gao Xinnan leapt from the hospital rooftop, the very place where they'd shared coffee and gazed out at the city.

Fifteen years later, the hospital's old-timers still talk about them, calling them "the twin jewels of medicine." But their story has become just another tale of "the old days."
