A beautiful, seemingly gentle, committed top who plays dumb to catch the tiger x a sweet, naive, pretty-boy-obsessed bottom who gets thoroughly taken advantage of without realizing it
Tong Chi has loved many people in his life. He likes beautiful things, and he always gets them: pretty dolls, sparkling gems, expensive brooches.
As long as he wants something, countless people will give it to him. As for beautiful people, he simply confesses and starts dating them.
What if they turn him down?
No problem.
The next one will be prettier.
In high school, Tong Chi confesses to Ying Xiwu for the first time.
Tong Chi: “You're so pretty. I like you. Will you go out with me?”
Ying Xiwu: “No.”
Tong Chi: “Oh.”
Ying Xiwu regrets it immediately, because Tong Chi turns around and starts dating someone else.
He gets into the same school as Tong Chi.
At university, Tong Chi confesses to Ying Xiwu for the second time.
Tong Chi: “You're so pretty. I like you...”
Ying Xiwu: “I will.”
Character One: Ying Xiwu (top)
- Appearance: He has stunning, top-tier beauty, the sort that makes him a peerless beauty in the human world. His features are exquisitely perfect, his skin pale and cool, and his air refined and otherworldly. Whether in high school or university, he is the center of attention, the one person in a crowd who draws every eye. Everyone agrees he is “super pretty.”
- Personality:
- On the surface: Gentle, polite, and distant. He tends to treat most people with a mild reserve, making them feel as if they're basking in a spring breeze while still being unable to approach him. This gentleness is his natural disguise, and the first thing that draws Tong Chi to him.
- Beneath the surface: Highly aggressive and possessive, with a calculating mind. He is the classic “plays dumb to catch the tiger” type. In high school, he turned Tong Chi down out of pride, only to watch Tong Chi immediately move on to someone else. The incident became a major source of regret and heartache. From then on, he realized that playing hard to get was useless, and set his sights on winning Tong Chi and keeping him firmly by his side.
- At heart: Utterly devoted. Once he has set his heart on Tong Chi, he will never let go. He lacks security because he knows Tong Chi is a “playboy” and remembers that he got together with him by becoming the “other man.” Once they are together, he becomes extremely clingy and controlling, always wary of any “beautiful creature” near Tong Chi. He is consumed by jealousy, though he may still appear gentle on the surface.
- How he acts:
- Early on: He treats people with a gentle mask, casually turns down Tong Chi's first confession, then immediately regrets it.
- Mid-story: He works hard to get into the same university as Tong Chi. The second time Tong Chi confesses to him, even though Tong Chi doesn't remember him, he accepts without hesitation and completely abandons his pride.
- Later: After they start dating, he turns into a “clingy sweetheart” and a “jealous jar,” doting on Tong Chi while keeping a close eye on him. He uses his beauty and gentleness as weapons, making sure Tong Chi can no longer see anyone else and eliminating any chance of “the next one being prettier.”
- Core traits: Fake gentleness, real obsession; stunningly beautiful, intensely possessive; willing to abandon principles for love (for example, becoming the “other man”); insecure and always needing reassurance that he's loved.
Character Two: Tong Chi (bottom)
- Appearance: Cute and handsome, with a harmless sort of good looks. His eyes are clear, making him seem innocent and naive.
- Personality:
- At his core: Extremely looks-obsessed and outrageously unfaithful, until he meets Ying Xiwu and gets thoroughly caught in his web. He loves all beautiful things, both people and objects. He pursues beauty in a direct, simple way: confess, acquire.
- How he thinks: His thoughts are straightforward. If he likes someone, he pursues them; if they turn him down, he moves on, with no hesitation. To him, pursuing pretty people is much like collecting beautiful gems and dolls. What he enjoys is the act of possessing and admiring beauty itself. He gets emotionally invested quickly, but can just as quickly detach.
- Traits: Sweet, naive, and simple-minded. He doesn't really understand feelings or responsibility, and is easily fooled by appearances, especially beauty. He can be willful, but because he comes from a wealthy family and has always been indulged, he has an innocent, carefree cruelty. He doesn't mean to hurt anyone; he simply follows his instinct to “like pretty things.”
- Later on: After Ying Xiwu has “devoured him whole,” he may still be clueless, not fully realizing that he has been firmly claimed. He grows accustomed to Ying Xiwu's presence and care, and Ying Xiwu's deliberate “precautions” gradually make him pay less attention to other “beauties.” Deep down, though, he may never fully understand why he has to “be faithful to one person.”
- How he acts:
- When he sees someone pretty, like Ying Xiwu in high school, he confesses directly. If rejected, he moves on to the next target without a backward glance.
- At university, he is drawn to Ying Xiwu's beauty again, without even recognizing him as the same person. Even if he already has a boyfriend, he can confess without a shred of guilt.
- Once they're dating, he enjoys Ying Xiwu's beauty and gentleness. Sometimes he might unconsciously remark that someone else is good-looking, making Ying Xiwu jealous and anxious while remaining completely oblivious himself.
- Core traits: Looks come first, shamelessly unfaithful; sweet, naive, and simple-minded; pursues beauty and has to possess it; passive in love, completely claimed without realizing it.
