A Post-Apocalyptic Monster's Working Life

Several years ago, the apocalypse arrived, and living things were divided into three types: infected, superpowered, and ordinary.

Xiaoyu was an octopus. Unfortunately, it got infected. It had eight tentacles, but... it was a tiny octopus less than 30 centimeters long, practically minuscule compared to its coworkers.

So apart from following the main group to wreak havoc at human bases, Xiaoyu also had to watch out for getting trampled by its coworkers.

After nearly getting trampled one too many times, Xiaoyu finally snapped. It decided to slack off. It still went out on every raid as usual, but just followed behind the main group as part of the cheering squad, picking up a few human weapons along the way so it could trade them with the boss for food back at the nest.

But it never expected that one day someone would notice how perfectly it was slacking off. Not the boss, but a human.

Damn humans. Why sneak up from behind?!

Lu Yuanzhou was the captain of the Dawn Squad at the A City base. He was also one of the few S-rank ability users at the entire base.

On one mission, he launched a surprise attack from behind. After killing a group of infected creatures, he spotted one that had slipped through the net.

A little blue octopus lay among the infected creatures, all eight limbs stiff. It looked like it had died a terrible death.

Lu Yuanzhou watched its tentacles twitch faintly and raised an eyebrow. "How come there's no blood at all? Could it still be alive?"

Then Lu Yuanzhou saw the little octopus freeze for a moment before secretly reaching out a tentacle to smear blood on itself.

Lu Yuanzhou laughed.

I'll polish the blurb, but the characterizations and emotional dynamic probably won't change. The character names may also be revised.
