Wen Xi transmigrated along with his two older brothers, and they ended up as a famously poor family in ancient times.
The good news: They were bound to a System. Complete the assigned tasks, and they would receive rewards.
The bad news: Their skills were both suited and unsuited to the tasks. The System wanted the PhD in science to place first in the imperial exams, the surgeon to become a renowned traditional Chinese doctor, and Wen Xi, a food blogger with only three thousand followers, to open the best restaurant in the land.
The three exchanged glances. They'd just have to make do. What else could they do, leave?
So from the start, they set up a little street-food stall. After all, money was what mattered most.
One day, on his way home after closing up, Wen Xi spotted a man lying in a corner.
Wen Xi sneered inwardly. Heh, was this the obligatory plot point for anyone who transmigrates?
But as soon as he finished grumbling to himself, moonlight fell on the man's face, revealing a beauty to behold.
Wen Xi: ?!
He immediately turned to his brothers, eyes sparkling with excitement. "Brothers, I could tell at a glance! He said he wants to come home with me?!"
His eldest brother pressed a hand to his forehead. "Our kang only fits three people."
His second brother sneered. "You can't just pick up men off the road. Don't you know that?!"
Wen Xi gazed at them with teary eyes. "But you can tell from his face that he'll bring his husband good fortune... and he's handsome."
His second brother sneered even louder. "Being handsome won't put food on the table."
Wen Xi retorted, "Just looking at him makes me want to eat three extra bowls of rice!"
His eldest brother sighed. "But we don't have enough rice for you to eat that much..."
That night, Wen Xi indignantly cut his five bowls of rice down to three and resolved to become a cold, heartless person from then on.
But the next day, he pressed down too hard while eating, and the bowl cracked.
So Wen Xi hugged the broken bowl and declared earnestly, "My brothers are right. I'll never fall in love at first sight again!"
His second brother scoffed. "That's not love at first sight. That's lust at first sight."
His eldest brother gave him a reproving look. "Why do you always have to tell the truth?"
Wen Xi burst into tears. You two are so mean!
Before long, though, Wen Xi discovered that little surprises had started appearing in his life.
On the first day, he stared eagerly at the neighbor's old hen and said he wanted to eat it.
That evening, ten plucked and cleaned chickens appeared in their yard.
The next day, he complained that washing dishes was exhausting and wished he could hire someone to do it.
On the third morning, he found the dishes already washed beside the stove. A grain of gold sat next to them.
Wen Xi immediately rushed out of the kitchen, clasped his fists in front of his chest, and made a wish with shining eyes. "Then I want a grand estate with four courtyards, ten million taels of gold, and three hundred handsome male servants!!!"
Someone watching in secret from the treetop: …o_O?
Later, the little stall became the finest restaurant in the capital.
And the young man who had been secretly helping Wen Xi finally stepped into the open.
One day, Wen Xi opened the door to find the young man standing there with pursed lips. Behind him was a group of colleagues, all looking excitedly at Wen Xi.
"Brother-in-law! We got our brother promoted to Pavilion Master. Can we cut the line when we come to eat from now on?! We can never get a reservation, aaah!"
As soon as they finished speaking, the students from the Imperial Academy who had come with Wen Xi's eldest brother lit up and turned to him, speaking earnestly. "Brother, from now on, your brother is our brother too. Can you get us a membership to the restaurant?!"
Just then, his second brother and his colleagues from the Imperial Medical Bureau arrived. Stroking their graying beards, they sighed. "Ah, if only I could eat this young master's cooking every day. I can't even imagine how many years longer I might live!"
And so Wen Xi's restaurant became a place that served everyone, from the underworld and the government to ordinary folk.
Anyone who dared cause trouble would be hunted down by all three sides!
Thus Wen Xi's restaurant came to be known as the Peace Restaurant!
