He Who Fell into the Mire

The privileged circle loves one type of person most: a beautiful, poor student.

They show him a world above the clouds, let him live a life of extravagant luxury, and carefully cultivate him into the finest flower of wealth and splendor.

Then they push him back into his old world and watch him drift through a sea of desire, lost and struggling, until he sinks into the mire, ruining and destroying himself.

That is the kind of "gift" they look forward to most.
