River Pearl

Jiang Zhu was famous far and wide for being a master at dodging work. While fishing by the river, she accidentally fell in. When she opened her eyes again, she found she'd turned into a plump female Yangtze finless porpoise.

The good news: As a famous local rascal along the Yangtze, the finless porpoise is a nationally renowned first-class protected menace. If it gets into a fight with a panda, even the panda gets sentenced to three years. The Northeast tiger watching nearby gets detained too.

The bad news: It's 1990. Although the number of finless porpoises has plummeted, they haven't yet been added to the protected species list.

Jiang Zhu lowered her head, but couldn't lower it far enough. She patted her round belly with a flipper and resolved to stay alive until she could live on government support, splash water wherever she liked by the river, and tease all the other anglers.

Things to know before diving in:

1. It has a livestream tag.

2. It's free and about 200,000 characters long.
