Reborn as a Director, but First, Let’s Get Some Fries

The main story is complete. Previous titles included The Director from the End of the Century, I Could Do That Too, and Can Any Tom, Dick, or Harry Make a Movie? On New Year’s Eve at the end of 1999, fireworks in Chinatown lit up the snow-covered Christmas trees along the street. Fang Keyi was lying in a hotel room, watching a rerun of the year’s hot award contender, The Matrix. In the new year, no aliens would arrive, the world wouldn’t end, and all of humanity wouldn’t fall asleep. Everyone would be safe and sound, and the sun would rise as usual. When the clock struck midnight, Fang Keyi jolted awake in the dark and realized he had transmigrated thirty years into the future, into a parallel world. He was now a third-year directing student at a film academy, and was watching a movie with a senior from the philosophy department next door. Good news: He gets to enjoy the fruits of human technological progress thirty years ahead of schedule. Bad news: He’s become a man, and a deadbeat student who mooches off his older sister. :) There’s also some inexplicable System in his head, constantly going on about things like “great directors” and “monuments to art,” none of which makes any sense to him. #If I’ve got a cheat, I might as well make something I like.# Profile created May 13, 2025 Content warnings: 1. A woman transmigrates into a man’s body. No romance. 2. A parallel world governed by the same laws of the universe, with technology slightly ahead of Earth, but not by much. This is mainly to make it easier for an ordinary movie buff like me to give the protagonist a cheat. 3. The protagonist’s abilities and the subject matter are limited, so the story will inevitably feature a number of familiar works and some very personal opinions. If that doesn’t work for you, please stop reading. 4. This is not a plagiarized-work story, but it does draw on prototypes of existing works, which will be noted. 5. The protagonist’s moral limits depend on mine, and the upper limit of his intelligence is constrained by mine. The story is complete! Here are a few upcoming projects: Omega, but Trained into a Holy Monk: romance included. Floating Immortal: cyberpunk cultivation, romance included. But given how often I change my mind, details for both ideas may still change before I start writing. The versions posted now are just opening concepts based on ideas from years ago. Don’t read them, they’ll be rewritten. Weibo: @-Denglong Kezi-, where I’ll share some inspiration and references. Theme: Film is the art of dream-making, and a way to explore the boundaries of expression.
