The Toxic Husband and the Property Tycoon

[A story set in the mortal realm of Dongzhou, part of the Four Realms: A Chronicle of Past and Present series]

[The short version: A love story between a legendary poisoner and a legendary real estate tycoon.]

·

Wang Linchuan, an official tasked with remonstrating the emperor, was the toughest man in the court of the Jiuguo Kingdom. He scolded the emperor like a naughty child and rebuked his colleagues like disobedient grandsons. He had called Prince Pang Xu "extravagant and debauched," yet also knelt on ice in the dead of winter to defend the prince's innocence.

The prince: Thank you, Lord Wang, for saving my life...

Wang Linchuan, expressionless: I was merely upholding the law of the land.

One day, Wang Linchuan was finally targeted for assassination because of his outspokenness. He was unexpectedly rescued by the rakish prince, who hid him in one of his many properties while he recovered. Afterward, Wang Linchuan turned dark and became a deadly poisoner, killing those who slipped through the cracks of Jiuguo's laws.

The prince: Lord Wang, why do you keep poisoning officials?

The poisoner, expressionless: I am merely carrying out Heaven's justice.

The officials of Jiuguo trembled: Hasn't the number of our colleagues dying suddenly been a little high lately?

Later, the poisoning scandal came to light, and the prince fled with his companions.

The prince: Let's go to Dayan. I own property there!

The poisoner: How do you own a house everywhere you go? I called you extravagant and debauched before, and clearly you haven't changed!
