Second-Marriage Husbands

On their wedding night, Song Jiyang's husband took all the family's money and ran away, leaving their already poor household even worse off.

After that, Song Jiyang came to hate marriage and had no intention of marrying again.

But his mother ignored his wishes and brought home a new husband for him.

His new husband, Zhao Rendong, was exactly like his name: incredibly patient.

People said he had married a scholar, endured his mother-in-law's mistreatment day after day without saying a word, then was cast out after three years without a child.

His own family didn't want him either, and drove him to live in a cave on a cliff.

Song Jiyang watched his mother fuss over him as soon as he entered the house, sending all the best things his way, and scoffed.

A dog that bites doesn't bark.

If he were really meek, would he have been able to win his mother's favor?

Just wait. Before long, his family would get fleeced all over again.

"Hey, you. My clothes are dirty. Go wash them for me."

At first, Song Jiyang figured he might as well make use of the free labor that had shown up at his door.

Later: "Hey, you. You can read? Teach me."

Later still: "Hey, you. Hasn't anyone ever taught you how to do this?"

Zhao Rendong was baffled. Wasn't this something that could happen just by lying in the same bed?
