Blurb:
One day, Ji Xuan is reborn as the infamous tyrant from history who shares his name.
Emperor Yang of Wei, Ji Xuan, was the third ruler of the Great Wei. From a young age, he was sharp and perceptive, with strikingly beautiful features. His face was as exquisite as jade, and his red robes as lovely as flowers.
But just three years after ascending the throne, he suddenly succumbed to a violent madness. He became depraved and tyrannical, indulging in extravagance and lust and sexually abusing his ministers. The golden age of the Great Wei was cut short, to the deep regret of later generations.
Genetic tests conducted by medical researchers in later generations revealed that Ji Xuan suffered from severe mental illness. He became known as the “Mad King.”
When Ji Xuan transmigrates, the original owner is trying to sexually assault a newly appointed Palace Censor in the imperial study.
During the struggle, the fierce young censor grabs the jade imperial seal from the desk and knocks the tyrant unconscious. That gives Ji Xuan the chance to transmigrate.
After waking up, Ji Xuan recalls the history:
Emperor Yang of Wei, driven mad and unable to think clearly, neglects the affairs of state. The emperor’s father-in-law, Grand Preceptor Cui, monopolizes power, while several of the emperor’s uncles and nephews eye the throne. The aristocratic families and the imperial clan scheme and struggle against each other, each taking turns at the top.
The chaos in the Central Plains also gives foreign tribes the chance to invade. After Emperor Yang is strangled to death on his dragon bed by his ministers, the Central Plains descend into utter chaos, and the flames of war burn across the land for hundreds of years.
Now that he knows how history unfolds, Ji Xuan should mend his ways, turn over a new leaf, and become a diligent, hard-working emperor... Oh, please!
Ji “I’m just here for the fun” Xuan: Sounds great. I got this life for free anyway. Now that I’m emperor, how can I pass up a chance to indulge in luxury and lust? I need to live up to my title as the greatest exploiter in this feudal age!
More than being revered by all, he wants to see everyone fear him and yet have no choice but to submit.
He immediately summons an attendant. “Where is the Palace Censor?”
The attendant replies nervously, “He is still being tortured in the imperial prison.”
The newly appointed censor, Chen Shanwan, was born to an aristocratic family. Upright and composed from childhood, he abides by the way of the gentleman, and naturally refuses to yield to the tyrant’s lechery.
Ji Xuan simply orders, “Bring Censor Chen to my chambers tonight and summon him to attend me.”
After Chen Shanwan is cleaned up and sent to the dragon bed, Ji Xuan looks into his eyes, which are practically burning with hatred, and gives his face a flirtatious pat. “Serve me well tonight, and I’ll grant you rank and title in the future.”
“Won’t do it? My dear subject, you wouldn’t want to lose your job, would you?”
Ji Xuan indulges himself for years. Today he summons one minister to attend him, tomorrow he flirts with an actor, all the while deftly consolidating his power and dispatching troops to attack the foreign tribes threatening his borders.
Until Ji Xuan suddenly realizes that the ministers who should hate him to the bone are now competing to attend him?
Censor Chen: When will Your Majesty summon me again?
Grand Preceptor Cui: Your Majesty should spread your favor evenly. How about sharing a bed with me tonight?
King of the Xiongnu: I wouldn’t be opposed to attending you either. (Puffs out his impressive pectoral muscles.)
The Great General: (A man of few words, he proudly puffs out his chest too.)
Content warnings:
1. The world and setting are inspired by the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties.
2. Ji Xuan really is a bad person. He is affected by the original owner’s madness, but he is not as inhuman as the original owner.
3. This is a story with one top and multiple bottoms. Due to platform rules, they can’t all share a bed at once, of course. Each love interest gets a separate happy ending. Don’t read if that isn’t your thing.
Ji Xuan is not related by blood to any of the love interests. Each has his own character and story. I don’t like doormats, so some love interests will go from hating Ji Xuan to loving him.
4. No stories with a bottom as the top, and no submissive tops. My top is a man who can conquer the world from top to bottom, from five thousand years ago to five thousand years in the future.
