Northeast China Special Talent Management Department

**An original fantasy story. The main character's romance takes up little of the story.

**A career in public service, but really she's a Chinese-style curse sorcerer.

At seventeen, a fortune-telling old woman on the street told Mu Yangquan that she'd achieve great things in life. Back then, she naively thought it meant getting a high enough score on the college entrance exam to attend a top university, graduating smoothly, and finding a high-paying job. Then she could live the lavish life of a video blogger, eating Australian lobster and giant crab at every meal.

At twenty-two, she silently weeps over a working stiff's pork trotter rice. Her degree has become an obstacle, and the diploma she paid a hundred thousand yuan for is no better than wastepaper. It's completely useless when applying for jobs. Heaven have mercy, she's managed to stay in the big city and find work as a card-opening streamer, barely scraping by...

Then, in her first month on the job, she locks eyes on the subway with a creature so horrifying that just looking at it makes her sanity plummet.

The next second, a passing butch woman kills the creature with a poke of her thumb.

Butch woman: You can see that thing?

Mu Yangquan: Uh... yeah?

Butch woman: Got a job?

Mu Yangquan: I do...?

The butch woman hands her a business card. It reads “Northeast China Special Talent Administration Department” and “Director: Zhou Wu.” The card is utterly plain and unremarkable.

Zhou Wu: You should consider quitting your old job. We're a proper public-sector organization. Low pay, lots of work, 3,500 a month after social insurance deductions, staff dormitories, a cafeteria that provides lunch, and transportation subsidies.

Mu Yangquan: Huh?

Theme: A bright tomorrow welcomes you.
