Bai Ye has had an ability ordinary people lack since childhood: he was born with heterochromia, and one of his eyes can see ghosts.
After failing another job interview, he finds a stray little white dog with an injured front leg on the street.
The little white dog has a cold stare, a tuft of slightly curled hair sticking up, and can talk.
Wait, it can talk?!!!
When its injury is almost healed, the little white dog tells him, by way of repaying his kindness:
[Anomaly Affairs Office. Monthly salary 50,000+. No ordinary people. For interviews, come to No. 444, Panshan Road, at midnight on July 14, and bring your resume.]
That night, the little white dog disappears. Bai Ye searches for a long time but can't find it.
He sets out with his resume.

The boss interviewing him has long silver hair like a waterfall and wears a long, modern Chinese-style robe. A silver earring hangs from his right ear, and in his hand is a jade-like folding fan as lovely as he is.
In a cool, detached voice, he asks Bai Ye an interview question: "If a demon is harmed by a villain and left injured on the roadside, then rescued by someone, should it repay them by offering itself in marriage?"
Bai Ye: "Huh? What did you say?"
Feng Yue clicks his tongue and rephrases the question. "Do you want to date?"
Bai Ye assumes it's standard interview small talk and replies, "No. I'm not looking for anyone for the next three years."
Feng Yue gives a cold chuckle and has nothing more to say.

Bai Ye is sure he won't get the job. The benefits are good, the pay is high, and he seems to have offended the boss.
But the next day, he gets a message from the boss saying he passed the interview and can start work the following day.
There are only three other people in his department: a socially anxious college student who handles the firepower, an internet-addicted teenager who tracks traces, and a useless boss who is in charge of looking good.
The department may be small, but it has official standing, and they're called in to deal with any supernatural incidents no one else can handle.
The socially anxious college student tells him, "Whatever you do, don't provoke the boss. He's terrifying!"
The internet-addicted teenager nods in agreement. "You'd better be careful."
Bai Ye thinks the boss seems like the most normal one of the four. Even when catching ghosts, he uses perfectly respectable techniques.
That is, until the night of the full moon, when the boss turns into a nine-tailed fox right in front of him and pins him down to bite his neck.
But why does this white fox look so familiar? And why does that tuft of hair bouncing with every movement look like something he's seen before?
