Blurb:
In the life plan laid out for him as a Transformer, Calamity should have been the center of attention, a god of slaughter on the battlefield. Instead, humans captured and humiliated him, crushed his pride, and reduced him to a mindless tool.
Determined to win his freedom and put an end to the war between his fathers, who had been mortal enemies locked in a cycle of love and hatred for four million years, Calamity set out to save himself.
He pretended to obey his human masters while secretly defying them, driving wedges between them by any means necessary.
When his silver fighter-jet and red-and-blue semi-truck fathers urged him to surrender, Calamity looked at his people, who had suffered through four million years of war, then at himself, trapped and powerless, and slowly raised his weapon.
Civil war among his kind, a greedy council, alien invaders, a resurrected evil god…
At some point, Calamity found he was no longer alone. More and more people gathered around the small fuel tanker who was all sharp words on the outside but soft-hearted underneath, joining him to fight their way through every obstacle.
A human girl nearly frozen to death outdoors after being abused at home, mass-produced soldiers treated as expendable war materiel, a partner willing to give everything for him, and fellow Transformers who set aside their differences to work together…
He had no intention of saving anyone, yet he couldn’t bear to see anyone else suffer as he had. So the black tanker stood defiantly before death, lifted his head, and brought hope of survival back to the world.
Just as one crisis after another was resolved, Calamity still didn’t get the peace and freedom he deserved. The evil god cackled as he snatched Calamity away from everyone he loved, taking him to another world while the little tanker screamed in despair.
The evil god said, “Serve me, fear me, worship me, and bring me the remains of my other selves from other worlds. You will become my favorite toy.”
A flying Kryptonian, a human in an iron suit, a bat, a demigod…
Inheriting from his fathers a refusal to bow to anyone, Calamity struggled to adapt to the superpowered humans of this other world, swallowing his pain as he put on his cold, ruthless mask once more. He would rather die than let the evil god have his way.
And so the world of superheroes was visited by a tanker truck that could transform into a person and was so arrogant he was almost rude.
They watched Calamity carry out one world-destroying act after another, treating him as a dire threat. Just as the evil god was about to be resurrected, the arrogant little tanker was knocked to the ground before the world itself, the evil god’s hand gripping the collar around his neck as he was branded a traitor.
Calamity waited for the evil god’s wrath to bring him the peace of death. But just as he had forgotten the hope he had given everyone, he had also forgotten one thing: those who love others will be loved in return.
His two fathers, who couldn’t stand each other, and their alternate-universe counterparts, his partner and friends, and the superheroes he had saved along the way all stood before the evil god, taking a deadly blow meant for the battered and broken Calamity.
In the wide optical lenses of the little tanker, his godlike father finally embraced him.
“I finally found you, my child who was never treated with kindness.”
His other father gave a scoff and hauled him to his feet with a firm grip.
“I’m proud of you,” he said.
And his partner, the knight who had rescued him from the mine disaster, gave him a gentle smile:
“I will never abandon you just to save myself.”
