Amusement Park

Retired detective x tavern owner

[A wineglass is the world's smallest amusement park.]

Jiang Zhongyuan and his mother returned to Changxi City in autumn. Their little tavern opened in winter.

Old friends dropped by now and then, and every time, they made a habit of gossiping about the friends in their lives.

Including Pei Mu.

Pei Mu had retired.

Pei Mu seemed to be back.

Pei Mu had a cast on his leg.

Pei Mu had gone to the police academy to become an instructor.

A friend asked if Jiang Zhongyuan knew Pei Mu, then added, "Never mind, you probably don't."

Jiang Zhongyuan smiled, remembering the figure who used to follow him around back then.

One windy night, Pei Mu walked into the tavern.

He wore a brown leather jacket and sat down to look at the drinks menu.

Jiang Zhongyuan asked what he wanted to drink.

Pei Mu said, "Long time no see."

He came to the tavern for a beer almost every night.

Pei Mu was as quiet, serious, and upright as ever.

Jiang Zhongyuan suspected the alcohol content of last night's drinks had been tampered with.

Otherwise, why would Pei Mu be knitting a scarf on his sofa?

"What are you doing?"

"Knitting you a scarf."

"Pei Mu, at most, we slept together. We weren't dating."

With a cigarette in his mouth, Pei Mu said, "If we slept together, then we're dating. Don't even think of weaseling out of it."
