When Fu Qiu was sixteen, his parents brought Xie Chi home.
He got into fights, skipped class, and was rebellious to the core, prickly all over.
His parents told Fu Qiu that Xie Chi was the child of a friend.
Though that was what they said, everyone knew the truth.
Xie Chi was the real young master of the Fu family, who had gone missing years ago.
When a group of troublemaking rich kids found out, they banded together to taunt Fu Qiu, laughing that he was just a fake young master who had usurped the real one's place.
Fu Qiu hid behind Xie Chi, clutching his clothes, and ordered him around. "Big brother, get him!"
When Xie Chi was eight, he met Fu Qiu.
They lived in the same area, just two streets apart. Fu Qiu lived in the rich neighborhood; Xie Chi lived in the slums.
He and Fu Qiu were two completely different kinds of people.
But Xie Chi liked to secretly follow Fu Qiu, watching over him and protecting him.
He would secretly beat up anyone who bullied Fu Qiu, quietly pick up the homework Fu Qiu had thrown away, and discreetly chase off anyone around Fu Qiu who treated him badly.
He never showed himself.
He was too dirty, too tainted.
He didn't belong in Fu Qiu's bright, dazzling world.
One day, Xie Chi discovered that he might be the Fu family's biological son.
It took him just one second to decide.
He destroyed the evidence of his identity.
Fu Qiu only needed to stay in that clean world.
Xie Chi would deal with the dirty things in the mud.
But he couldn't keep it secret forever. When he was sixteen, he was brought back to the Fu family.
When Fu Qiu learned the truth, he hid in his room and cried all day.
Xie Chi opened the door and set a glass of warm milk in front of Fu Qiu.
Then he crouched before him and looked up at his face.
He wasn't good with words and didn't know what to say. After a long silence, he managed just three words.
"Don't cry."
Fu Qiu cried until he was exhausted. He sniffled, took little sips of milk, and murmured, "Actually, I remember you."
That day, when he was eight, he'd accidentally fallen into the sea. Someone had rescued him.
The boy had glided freely through the shallow water, his wet hair clinging to his forehead.
After that, Fu Qiu went to that beach again and again, but never saw the boy again.
Not until today.

Everyone is waiting to see the fake young master, who usurped the real one's place, make a fool of himself.
But they wait and wait, only to watch Fu Qiu grow more and more spoiled. He won't even put on his socks, and insists that someone blow on his soup until it's cool, even when it's only a little hot.
And Xie Chi, the young master raised in luxury, is more than happy to serve him tea and water for the rest of his life.
