Jiang Chenghe has known since childhood that he lives in a novel. He is destined to become the villain, with a nonsensical life full of inexplicable evil deeds, until one day he suddenly bites the dust for no reason at all.
Young Master Jiang jolts awake. If he’s already the villain, why bother being a good little boy?
So eight-year-old Jiang Chenghe causes chaos wherever he goes. Today, he blows up the garden of the Jiang family’s business rival; tomorrow, he sets fire to the rooftop of his own house; the day after that, he bags the heir of some family and beats him up. Finally, after ruining a business deal worth hundreds of millions, his father dumps him in a small county town.
On his first day at his new school, Jiang Chenghe takes over and blows up the school auditorium.
The place descends into chaos. All the children scream and run, except for one grubby little boy lying on a bench in the corner of the auditorium, apparently asleep.
Jiang Chenghe wakes him.
The boy stares blankly at the chaotic auditorium, thick with black smoke.
Jiang Chenghe asks him, “Why didn’t you run?”
The boy blinks his big, bright eyes and slowly writes on Jiang Chenghe’s hand: I couldn’t hear you. Thank you for waking me.
-
Jiang Chenghe thinks this kid is right up his alley.
The boy can’t hear or speak, and only quietly follows behind him.
He even takes the only bandages he has and carefully sticks one over the tiny wound on Jiang Chenghe’s hand.
Though he’s fallen too and has scrapes on his hands and knees, the boy just shakes his head foolishly and slowly writes on Jiang Chenghe’s hand:
[I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt.]
He smiles so foolishly, but he’s sweet and adorable.
Jiang Chenghe doesn’t know why Chi Hao smiles so much.
He writes his question on a piece of paper: “Why are you so happy every day?”
Chi Hao lifts his face and gives him another silly smile, then writes on his hand:
[Because I have nothing, so when you’re even just a little nice to me, A-He, it makes me so happy.]
Young Master Jiang thinks of the ridiculous life waiting for him and figures that if he’s destined to die as a villain, someone should inherit his fortune. He slaps the table and tells Chi Hao, “From now on, you’re my wife!”
Chi Hao: “?”
-
Everyone at school knows that Young Master Jiang fears nothing and cares about no one, treating everyone with equal disdain.
When they see the deaf, mute boy following him around every day, they assume the boy is in for trouble. While the young master is away, they gang up to mock the boy, calling him Jiang Chenghe’s little lackey.
Usually good-natured Chi Hao gets upset. He earnestly tries to explain, writing on their hands:
[No, no, I’m not his lackey. I’m his wife!!]
Everyone: “????”
-
Chi Hao has been deaf since birth. He can’t hear, so he can’t speak either. He lived with his grandfather as a child. When his grandfather passed away, he lived alone. Now he’s about to be sent to an orphanage.
On the day he’s supposed to move, he meets the young master who rules the school.
The young master suddenly tells him, “Come home with me. I’ll raise you, and when we grow up, you can be my wife!”
Chi Hao doesn’t know what a wife is, but he knows Jiang Chenghe is the best.
He gives him lots of tasty food, helps him get dressed and put on his socks, worries that he’ll be cold, hot, lonely, or left alone, and always holds his hand.
Jiang Chenghe is the best person in the world.
One day, Chi Hao’s hearing improves a little. He wants to surprise Jiang Chenghe, so he doesn’t tell him.
That night, as they’re falling asleep, he hears Jiang Chenghe holding him and whispering very softly in his ear, “I don’t want to be the villain anymore. I don’t want to be separated from you.”
Later, when Chi Hao’s hearing has recovered and he has learned to speak, the first thing he says is, “A-He, we’ll never be apart.”
-
The grubby little mute boy is raised by Jiang Chenghe until he’s fair, clean, and soft, like a beautiful peach.
One day, when they’re grown, someone comes to find Chi Hao and says sternly, “Jiang Chenghe is the big villain. You need to run and stay away from him. He’ll lock you up one day!”
After the truth about his role as the novel’s villain comes out, Jiang Chenghe lights a cigarette and says nothing. He thinks the person has him figured out. If Chi Hao tries to leave, he really will lock him up.
But Chi Hao’s eyes are shining as he takes Jiang Chenghe’s hand.
“If you’re going to lock me up, the chains should have some padding. Otherwise they’ll be cold.”
“You can’t skip any of my three meals a day. I want nice clothes, and I want you to change my jewelry and gold ornaments every day.”
“I also need a gym. Otherwise I’ll get fat staying in my room all the time.”
“Most importantly, A-He has to come see me every day. We agreed from the start that we’d never be apart.”
The other person: “?”
Jiang Chenghe: “!”
An adorable, high-maintenance shou who starts out pitiful but is spoiled rotten × a domineering young master who treats everyone except me with disdain
