Though still young, Gu Lanrao had a body that was falling apart. She nearly died after being admitted to the hospital, and after barely surviving, she fired her boss for the sake of her own life.
She never expected to come back from the brink of death only to inexplicably gain some strange... ability? Superpower? System?
Having read countless books, Gu Lanrao had no idea how to explain the changes happening to her. After trying and failing to hint at what was going on to her doctor, she decided to keep it a secret.
Simply put, she could see a one-sentence description of everything except people themselves.
[A hospital gown that hasn't been washed in two weeks]
[A regular black ballpoint pen that went from the nurses' station to the emergency room, inpatient department, and surgical clinic]
[A pair of sneakers that hasn't been washed in three months]
[A potted plant just watered with some XX drink mix]
This strange ability didn't affect her life. In a way, it made things more interesting.
After all, who hasn't wanted to see the world through Sherlock Holmes's eyes? Besides, it was fun to use the ability to catch the occasional bit of gossip.
After nearly croaking, Gu Lanrao adjusted her attitude and treated what had happened to her as an unexpected adventure. She didn't tell anyone about her special ability, and had no intention of showing it off.
Until...
[A trash can containing a baby]
[A lawn splashed with human blood]
[A kitchen knife that has been used to kill]
...Wait a minute. Did this just jump from a family-friendly show to a true-crime program?
But she couldn't just ignore it. Gu Lanrao scratched her head. If she wanted to help, she'd need something concrete to go on!
So, three years after leaving school, she started studying again.
She read all kinds of books on psychology, trace evidence, microexpressions, and a whole range of other random subjects. Using her cheating skill of working backward from the answer to figure out the steps, she built herself a reputation as a "self-taught genius detective."
"Of course, I pick up the occasional side job, too."
After successfully reporting a local embezzler who'd stolen half a million, Gu Lanrao clutched the reward money and spoke to the police officer with complete sincerity.

[A sudden idea. I think it's interesting. I might change some details, but the core concept probably won't change.]
[For now, I'll just write it down.]
-
1. I'll start by trying my hand at something I'm better at: a story with no romance.
2. It's set in a slightly fictionalized world. Maybe there'll be official licenses for detectives. I'll decide on the details when I write the outline.
3. It's a feel-good, no-angst story, probably an everyday crime-solving story? Everyday life is all I know how to write, haha. [scratches head]
