They say the end of the world is a government job.
That's a lie. The end of the universe is one too.
Not just this universe, but the other one as well.
After failing to get a government job for two years straight after graduating college, Lin Xingwan was wondering whether to look for work when she woke up one day and discovered...
A government job had fallen right out of the sky and landed in her lap.
Literally.
"So Mom really did go to the far side of the moon and burn an alien's ass, huh?"
Lin Xingwan remarked.
I mean, who would turn down a government job they didn't even have to test for? Lin Xingwan certainly couldn't.
Then Lin Xingwan found out that her new job came with an immediate business trip.
Just a little farther than most.
Lin Xingwan: "Wait, what do you mean I have to go to another world to catch escaped spiritual creatures?"
-
Ever since spiritual energy began returning to the world, more and more gods, monsters, ghosts, and demons have gone from "legend" to "reality."
But that brought another problem.
Tiny cracks had appeared in the world's barriers, and some weaker spiritual creatures and little demons had slipped through them into other worlds.
Lin Xingwan was sent on an official assignment, her soul protected by all kinds of gods, monsters, ghosts, and demons as she traveled to another world to retrieve them.
And so began a never-ending string of explanations:
To the ninety-year-old ice pop: "I haven't been injected with serum."
The ice pop himself lifted his smashed shield.
To New York's richest man: "I don't have superpowers."
The richest man himself looked at the skyscraper, restored to its original state.
To the God of Humanity: "I'm not an alien."
The alien himself touched his newly charged body.
To the wheelchair-bound professor: "I'm not a mutant."
The professor himself rubbed his head, which had just been beaten up inside his own mind.
To Gotham's Rose: "I'm not human."
The Rose herself: "?"
Lin Xingwan, wearing her secret identity:
"I'm not an alien, not a mutant, not human, not nature's revenge, I don't have superpowers, a tragic past, or some magical serum. Let me say it again: I'm a DEMON!"
Lin Xingwan, still wearing her secret identity:
"I told you, I'm a demon! You know what a demon is?! Gods, monsters, ghosts, demons! Which part don't you understand? If you don't get it, go learn Chinese, aaah!"

-Reader's Guide-
1. No romance! Female protagonist, purely platonic. Feel free to ship the characters as friends.
2. This is a secret identity novel. Nobody's identity is revealed at any point.
3. The author has never been to America or met a real demon, so this novel contains a LOT of stereotypes! I'll leave everything to the internet and old memes in my head (hands clasped). If anything is different, it's a parallel universe. This is mainly a wish-fulfillment story, so please don't overanalyze it.
4. Characters from various British and American TV shows may appear at random, but that doesn't mean they'll have major roles. Some may just be walk-ons. Have fun spotting the Easter eggs.
5. This is a crossover fanfic, so it may include BG, GB, BL, and even GL couples from the original works, along with descriptions of related character dynamics and plotlines. I can't guarantee how much page time they'll get.
6. Fanfic inevitably involves some OOC characterization, and this story crosses over a bunch of shows, so there are tons of headcanons and my own take on the timeline. Please keep that in mind before reading.
Everyone has their own preferences, so if you find the reading experience unpleasant, please stop reading in time.
Of course, if I've misunderstood the original works or their settings, you're welcome to point it out. I'll fix any mistakes and explain my headcanons. Friendly discussion in the comments is welcome.
