Then a will summoned her back to Gotham. Her adoptive mother had passed away, leaving her just one final inheritance: a fast-food restaurant that was somehow thriving, on the verge of closing, and still paying off its mortgage. Oh, and on the very first day she returned, someone smashed up the storefront, leaving it full of drafts from every direction. But the restaurant was a keepsake from her adoptive mother, and Agnes had no intention of handing it over to anyone. She was going to pay off the mortgage and turn this fast-food joint into a thriving business! As the saying goes, people who live by the mountains eat from the mountains, and people who live by the sea eat from the sea. Agnes decided to put her professional skills to use and catch seafood in Gotham Bay, making freshly caught, freshly prepared ingredients the restaurant's selling point. On her first day diving, she found a corpse underwater. On her second day diving, she found a poison gas bomb underwater. On her third day diving, she found a huge stash of weapons dumped underwater. On her fourth day diving, she found a mermaid: a beautiful Batman fish?!! What, are you another Gotham specialty? After nervously dragging the infamous beautiful Batman fish ashore, Agnes wondered if she should call the police. But when she turned around, the big black thing had disappeared. The only sign he'd ever been there was the bat-shaped coin left on the windowsill. Well, okay. The little restaurant stayed open, and Agnes carried on with her diligent, down-to-earth life as a shopkeeper. But something seemed different. After that, during the day, handsome men started showing up in the restaurant much more often. At night, she would sometimes serve a whole crowd of famished vigilantes at once. Handsome men and vigilantes: were those Gotham City specialties, too? It wasn't until she saw Batman leading all those vigilantes into battle that Agnes finally understood: So this was Batman repaying her kindness! Who says running a shop in Gotham is a bad idea? Gotham is great! (Not really.) Theme: A story about hurt and healing, loss and gain.
