Giving Players a Taste of the Otherworldly

[Unrestricted live comments are now open] After your parents pass away, you move to the peaceful town of Beika. Bad news: It’s a little too peaceful here. Good news: You’re socially anxious and never go outside. Bad news: You receive an unexpected package. Good news: It isn’t a local specialty, Baka Eggs. It’s a game you won in a giveaway. Bad news: No branding, unknown indie studio. It’s probably a trash game. Good news: All the music was composed by Zuo○ Zhengqing. You start the game. [Please choose your starting scenario] [A. Collection game: Tou○ Ranbu] [B. Adventure and mystery: Bungo○ Stray Dogs] [C. Food and management sim: Jujutsu○ Kaisen] Good news: You can choose between three scenarios with different gameplay. Bad news: You can’t save or load in the starting scenario. You curse the game as a piece of trash that’s doomed to fail, then enter the scenario. You try to speedrun it, keeping your socially anxious persona in mind as you become a social menace in the game. In scenario A, you take what you want, collecting the entire sword roster for free. In scenario B, you bounce back and forth for clues, use your flexible moral standards to beat your predecessors, and unite the world under your rule (?). In scenario C, you become a successful boss, open an unlicensed street-food stall, and never pass up a rare cursed spirit ingredient. Once you finally beat the game, you discover... Damn it, this stupid game has a hidden level too? I want my money back! Oh, I got it for free? Never mind. Your life online continues... How to enjoy this story: 1. The races and classes are heavily altered from Final Fantasy XIV. The focus is on swords, and the sword boys appear throughout. 2. The game worlds don’t merge with the player’s world. Each scenario has its own separate world, and they aren’t connected. 3. The main plot takes its time. There are lots of everyday interactions between the player and the locals. The whole story is in second person, and there are no secondary pairings besides the official one. 4. The player’s gender is whatever the player chooses. The player has no fixed gender, and everyone is their wingman. 5. This is my first long novel, and the pacing and content are both terrible. OOC fanfic is inevitable. If it’s too awful to read, please do the right thing and leave. The author is a fragile jellyfish who shatters at the slightest criticism. 6. I’ve kicked every character’s death flag out of here, but it’s just a game, so don’t hold the player to any moral standards, okay? Okay. Theme: Keep pushing your limits and become a better version of yourself
