The Day Before I Died

In 1998, a string of strange murders took place in Xitai City. Stranger still, the victims all lived in the same residential complex: Hongsheng Riverside.

Residents were called in to give statements at the police station. Some refused to speak. Some said they'd smelled something strange by the river. Others said it was quiet every night and they hadn't heard a thing.

Jiang Yiling lived there too.

Her mother brought home a Guanyin statue and burned incense before it day and night, praying for their safety.

July 1. Summer vacation began.

Jiang Yiling went to the amusement park with her classmates. When she got home that evening, the lights were off and the house was pitch-black. No matter how loudly she called, nobody answered.

She pushed open the bedroom door. The window was open, and pale moonlight spilled in. Her parents lay on the bed, already dead.

Just as she was about to scream, something struck the back of her head, and she blacked out.

When she woke up, she was sitting at her desk.

Her deskmate, Lin Shen, asked, "Summer vacation starts tomorrow. Want to go to the amusement park together?"

She had been reborn, back to the day before she died.
