Your Servant Is Gravely Ill

Xu Yunzhou is a fox spirit who, through a series of mishaps, is summoned to the palace and made the Imperial Preceptor. The main reason is that he is just so good-looking.

So when the young prince returns from his travels, he falls in love at first sight. The moment he sees Xu Yunzhou, he clings to his leg and refuses to let go.

Xu Yunzhou looks at the tiny human child and falls into deep thought.

Hmm... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to go to the palace and get some extra food?

And so, Xu Yunzhou becomes the laziest yet most respected Imperial Preceptor in the palace.

Meanwhile, the young prince, Zhang Zisheng, spends ten years bringing all sorts of topics to him for casual chats.

For example:

"Did the Imperial Preceptor get up early today?"

Xu Yunzhou: "I didn't sleep."

"Did the Imperial Preceptor dream last night?"

Xu Yunzhou: "?"

"Then does the Imperial Preceptor dream about me?"

Xu Yunzhou: "No."

At last, he outlasts the young prince's years until the prince takes the throne. Xu Yunzhou figures that, according to the storybooks, the new emperor's reign will be unstable, and someone will surely try to eliminate the "loyal ministers and valiant generals" around him.

To make sure he isn't one of the people eliminated, Xu Yunzhou decides to run away.

He writes Zhang Zisheng a letter with just one line: "Your servant is gravely ill. Please find someone else for the post."

But before he can flee, Zhang Zisheng, newly enthroned, runs right up to him and bursts into anguished tears. Sobbing, he clasps Xu Yunzhou's hand and says, earnestly, word by word:

"I'll make you empress right now. Even after you, after you die, I absolutely won't take any concubines, sob sob sob sob sob."
